There truly is no place like home for the holidays. When we hear the word home, we often go back in our minds to earlier days, Christmases of long ago with cousins, aunts, and uncles, those who are no longer with us. Memories come to mind of simpler days, family traditions, and carols around the Christmas tree–carols that remind us of the love, joy, and peace that Jesus came to bring.
But we live in a world that is broken. The evidence is all around–pain, sickness, loss, and hurt. Sometimes we may wonder where God is in our world today. Where is the love, the joy, the peace He came to give?
Jesus is the answer to that question.
Will You Be Home for Christmas?
You see, God saw our tears, our breaking hearts, and our helpless estate, and decided to step into our world–to breathe our air, feel our pain, and walk in our shoes. Jesus left the glory of the Father’s side and was born into our world of pain that He might make His home here with us.
We try to settle in and make our home here, but the truth is we live in a fallen, imperfect world that can never really satisfy. The sting of sin separates us from a holy God. We can’t be good enough, we can’t sacrifice enough, we can never do enough to earn the love and peace our hearts crave. God has set eternity in our hearts, so we will always long to be at home with the Lord. Only Jesus could make a way for us to live again.
This world is not our home. We were created for eternity. Only a life lived in Christ can bring true love, joy, and peace. Because those things can’t be found in the world but only in a relationship with Jesus.
Immanuel–God with Us
It was a silent, holy night when Jesus made His entrance into our world. But the stars looked down with anticipation, the angels erupted into praise, and the shepherds couldn’t keep it to themselves! The God Who wraps Himself in light, came down and let Mary wrap Him in rags. The lips that spoke the world into existence parted in an Infant’s cry. Immanuel–God with us–had come to our home.
He wants you to know today that no matter what you’ve done, no matter where you’ve been, He wants you to come home to Him. He sees it all and loves us still. Jesus came into our world and made a home here so that we could live forever at home with Him.
Won’t you come out of hiding and come home to Jesus? He hears your cry for home. He sees the pain in your heart. He stands on the porch with the light on. He’s just waiting for you to come home.
