Does true love really exist?
I believe it does. And I do believe that those God has called to marriage have a spouse hand-picked for them by the Lord Himself. Kenneth and I began praying for our children while they were still in the womb. And we have prayed for their future spouses almost as long.
We want our kids to choose well and to spend their lives with the one God created for them.
Marriage is for life. Choosing our spouse is the second most important decision we will ever make. And nothing is sweeter than finding the right one and enjoying life by his or her side.
“It was but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go…” (Song of Solomon 3:4a, KJV).
If you are single and looking for your true love, I have good news for you today!
How to Find Your True Love
I have a friend, Kristen Tiber, who just wrote a book called At the Well: Discovering God’s Plan for Finding True Love. In her book, she shares the story of Isaac and Rebekah and their quest for true love. She details what it means to come to the well and trust God to provide our future spouse, in His time and in His way.
This book is so important, especially for our young people. The world will tell us what to look for in a spouse–good looks, humor, money, etc.–or just don’t get married when you can live with your significant other.
But God’s way is the blessed way. Our children need to know that God has a plan for their lives, and if they will seek Him and His plans for finding true love, they will receive the greatest joy and blessing they will ever know.
“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24, NIV 84).
The greatest thing about true love? It is eternal. Because if we choose well according to God’s plan, we will be equally yoked with another believer. We may part at death, but we will be reunited in eternity.
“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14).
“And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love” (1 Corinthians 13:13).
Love remains. Love never fails, even in death. Because true love comes from God, and that, my friends, is eternal.
“He has taken me to the banquet hall, and his banner over me is love” (Song of Solomon 2:4).
Go to the Well
When we go to the well and allow God to lead us to our true love, we can rest under His banner of peace, protection, and provision.
